    Yes, they are listed on the security tab. I went back and actually typed the beginning of the role name after {role}- and it worked! It just wasn’t showing in the dropdown when I only typed in {role}- . Thanks for your help.

    I believe the roles were created by WooCommerce.

    I’m sorry, that is what I used. My original message contains a typo. I entered {role}- and those roles did not appear. Thank you.

    Regarding the first question – is it possible to set a universal standard that direct one-to-one messages generate an email, but announcements do not?
